This session was one for the books! Corrine’s Minnesota senior session was ridiculously amazing and fun. When she told me some of her ideas for her session, I was so excited to be her senior portrait photographer. It was just the icing on the cake that she was super photogenic and had the best energy ever.
We started her session in the downtown area of Cloud town. Although Zimmerman, MN doesn’t have much for a downtown area, there are other options near by. And I am always down to drive back to St. Cloud, MN.
I mean who knew that a parking ramp would make for such an awesome location! I just love how these photos came out! It was a bonus that there were big puffy clouds in the sky that day. After the parking ramp we strolled around the rest of the downtown area and took some more fun pictures with all the neat brick walls and colors that the area have to offer.
After downtown we headed to St. Johns Campus, this is one of my favorite places to do a session as it offers so much variety for places to shoot. They have the old buildings, vines, beautiful flowers, and a lake. Some of the architecture there is really stunning and intricate.
Would you look at the ivy? It makes for the best background in my opinion. We also found some pretty pockets of light while there and got some beautiful backlit images, see below.
If you aren’t sure where you’d like to do a session, just chat with me. I have a ton of ideas for locations all around the state of Minnesota. My curious wandering nature has taken me all over the state and I have many places where I would just love to do a session at.
The picture above is one of my favorites from the session, I think it shows her fun bubbly personality and it screams Minnesota.
After the lake, we headed to the pool. Corrine is a swimmer and wanted to get some images of her in action. So I threw on my suit and and got into the pool with her. I happen to have an underwater camera just for these type of photos! I am always down to try new things, so if you an idea for your session, I’d love to hear it!
If you are looking for a senior photographer in Elk River or near by, I’d love to chat with you! I serve the Elk River, Minnesota area and beyond. I am pretty much down to drive anywhere in Minnesota, travel rates will apply. I would even be down to travel out of state, just ask!
This session was so much fun, it was like everything came together perfectly. Sammie is just the most gorgeous girl, I have serious hair envy. We started her session in the downtown area for a more urban look. I love to use the various brick walls, colored walls, stairways, and alleys that downtown areas have to offer. There is such a range of textures and colors. I really make it high on my priority list to get not only a bunch of varied poses, but also varied backgrounds. I have spent years studying how to pose people. There is a whole art to posing people and making them look their best.
After downtown we headed to my favorite park and we had the most magical fall light.
We headed to the old farm area first and had some great light there, I loved the sweater that she wore to her farm session, and can we talk about the matching boots?! I die! I think it works really well with the surroundings.
I don’t know what it is about the light during the fall but it is my favorite light. I loved how the light lit up her hair! And that last shot is one of my favorites from the whole session. It is just dreamy!
Don’t forget about my early bird special for senior portraits. 50% off the session fee and $50 in print credit. I only run this till mid June so don’t miss out! You can book your session date anytime in 2019 you just need to reserve your session date and pay the session fee to lock in the deal. You can find my full pricing here. Check out the last senior session I blogged here.
Minnesota winter blahs have me dreaming about Florida and the wildflower fields near Gainesville. While spring is more than a couple months out here in my home state, in Florida it is right around the corner! I had so much fun reconnecting with all the families I used to photograph when living in FL it was such an honor that even years later they still wanted me to be their family photographer.
I first photographed the Schuman family when the kids were just tots. I remember a family session with them in Micanopy and a pumpkin patch session around Halloween. Their kids were just babes then. Its always fun for me to see how the kids have grown and changed over the years, especially neat when it had been so long since I had seen some of them!
These kids were so well behaved and the family is just so photogenic! Mom did such a great job coordinating their outfits. It can be hard picking out colors for the wildflower field since it is so colorful!
I haven’t decided if I am going to return to Gainesville, Florida area again this year or not. While I certainly would like to escape the frozen tundra that I call home, it will depend on how much interest there is for sessions again this year. If you are interested in a wildflower session this year fill out the form below letting me know you are interested and what kind of session you are looking for. I could also do other sessions besides wildflower ones while there if you were looking for something different, just let me know.
You can find another session I did last spring right here – https://bethjphotography.com/2018/11/19/blades-family-wildflower-session-minnesota-family-photographer/
I know most people aren’t already thinking forward to senior portraits and hiring a senior photographer in Minnesota, but you should be! Most photographer’s summers book quickly and a lot of them offer early bird or spring specials. I am one of those said photographers! I am running a early bird 50/50 special. If you book your session before June 1st (session can take place anytime in 2019) you will get $50 off your session fee and $50 in print credit for a total savings of $100!
Since I have a new website I am having to update all of my sessions and put them up on my new blog. I did this session a couple years back in the St. Cloud, Sartell area. This was Andrea and she opted for a shorter session and we still got a ton of amazing pics. Can you say gorgeous?! She has such a classic movie star beauty look to her.
We did her session at Bend in the River Park in Minnesota in the fall. Fall light is my favorite and I pride myself in being able to use it creatively in my sessions. Do you see how her hair is rimmed in golden light? This isn’t by mistake, I seek out pockets of light that create the most beautiful golden rim lighting. I have perfected this method in the ten plus years I have been a portrait photographer, and you will see it consistently in my work. I think beautiful golden backlight really adds to an image and I prefer to do shoots on days when the sun is shining. Although I am also a fan of a good old stormy sky too.
I absolutely adore when seniors want to incorporate props or pets into their sessions, with pets being my very favorite. I know some photographers don’t like the added challenge of an unpredictable pet, but I think it is so important to capture them in photos too. Pets play such an important role in our lives, why not include them?
I wish I had included our family dog in my senior portraits! I have had seniors include their cars, pets, books, headphones, vintage luggage, all sorts of fun creative things.
